Brain Mapping

The Cortical Plasticity Lab focuses on understanding how changes in the structure and function of the sensorimotor system are related to behavioral changes. We are primarily interested in the context of brain injury, where we believe that reorganization within these areas give rise to functional changes in skilled motor recovery. We use a mixture of behavioral, neurophysiological, neurocomputational and anatomical assessments to characterize and manipulate these changes.

Collaborations with engineers and imaging scientists have also expanded the lab's research to include development of implantable electronic microdevices to repair pathways in the brain after traumatic brain injury, therapeutic materials for repairing cranial defects, and wearable, deep-structure imaging for analyzing brain hemodynamics.
